Now known as Protea Hotels by Marriott, this series of hotels was founded in 1984 by Otto Stehlik and just 6 business associates who all comprised the 40% ownership of the brand. 60% of the business was held by Bankrop. This brand was born strong with 4 properties already under management. In 2013, Protea Hospitality Holdings was acquired by Marriott International which was the parent company of the famous Marriott Hotels. The rebranding was more than just a business acquisition.
