Alderney Airport – ACI
Alderney Airport is known as the first airport which opened in the Channel Islands and the only one located on Alderney, Channel Islands, UK. It is operated by the States of Guernsey and can be found on the southwestern side of the town of St. Anne. ACI is considered the closest to France and southern England among the airports on the island group. Although it is the primary entry point via air to Alderney, the airport only operates on scheduled hours up to 7:20 PM.
Best Time to Visit
Constructed way back in 1935, Alderney Airport stands at an elevation of 88 meters above mean sea level and features various facilities such as an Airport Fire Station, a hanger, and avgas refueling. Among the airports on Channel Islands, this airfield is the only one with three operational runways, two of which are grass-covered. Alderney Airport accommodated over 53,000 passengers in 2018, a drastic decrease from the 61,000 passengers in 2014. This may be because the only destination offered at the airport are Guernsey and Southampton only. From ACI, you can easily drop by Querqueville, Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, and Equeurdreville-Hainneville.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Being an island destination, ACI is conveniently located near cozy accommodations such as Harbour Lights Hotel and Braye Beach Hotel, both of which are within 15 minutes from the airfield and offer a relaxing view of the sea. The nearest airport from Alderney Airport can be found on the mainland of France, Maupertus Airport, and serves the town of Cherbourg.
