Algaida: Exploring the Heart of Majorca Island
Found on the island of Majorca in the Balearic Sea, Algaida, Spain, is a municipality covering almost 90 square kilometers of land and housing over 4,500 residents as of 2005. The town lies 22 kilometers from the cities of Manacor and Palma. Algaida’s name is derived from “al-gaida,” an Arabic word that translates to “the Base.” There are three communities within Algaida, the most popular being Randa, which is home to three secluded monasteries. Best Time to Visit
April is among the best months to visit Algaida, thanks to the plenty of festivals and events held during this month. The Festa Sant Francesc and Festa Sant Jordi are two of these events, both of which are celebrated across the island in honor of the patrons of Majorca. The Holy Week season is sometimes held in April, as well, so expect a high volume of tourists. The majority of Algaida, Spain hotels are typically more expensive than usual during the summertime. If you’re on a budget, you can come in the winter during the slow season.

While in Algaida, make sure to visit the Gordiola Glassworks and Museum, which is only a short drive away from the city center.
