Founded in 1986, Kamat Hotels India Ltd. is a renowned hospitality group that is a part of the greater Kamat Group, which has been around for more than 80 years. While the company is primarily known for their success with hotels and heritage hotels, it also pursues other hospitality ventures, such as time share, club resorts, hotel consultancy, and many more. Led by Indian hotelier and environmentalist Dr. Vithal Venkatesh Kamat, who is the son of late founder Venkatesh Krishna Kamat, the company has developed eight luxury hotels throughout the country: The Orchid Hotel Mumbai, The Orchid Hotel Pune, The Orchid Hotel Bhubaneswar, Fort JadhavGADH, Mahodadhi Palace, Lotus Beach Resort Dapoli, Lotus Beach Resort Goa, and Lotus Eco Beach Resort Konark.
Kamat Hotels is known worldwide for their eco-friendly practices, notably making the five-star Orchid Hotel in Mumbai the first hotel in Asia to receive the Ecotel certification. The company has been recognized for both their high-quality hospitality and their environmental commitment multiple times over the years. Significant accolades include the “Green Globe Award 1998” by World Travel Mart and “International Hotel & Restaurant Association Environmental Award 2001”, among many others. Dr. Kamat also received the “IHC Lifetime Achievement” award in Hospitality in 2019.
