Bago is a city and once the capital of Southern Myanmar. It is located in Bago region and formerly known as Hanthawaddy. Those who plan to witness and enjoy Bago's festival and events, the Shwe Maw Daw Paya Festival takes place in March together with the Shwe Maw Daw Pagoda Festival in the latter weeks. The highlights of tourist’s Bago tour are the temple and pagoda visit. First on the list is the Shwethalyaung Buddha, a reclining Buddha with a length of 55 meters and height of 16 meters. It is built in 994AD during the reign of King Migadepa. Another one is the Shwe Maw Daw Pagoda which is a mound like structure commonly called as Stupa, is considered the tallest pagoda in Myanmar. Visitors must also visit the Kanbawzathadi Palace that is built in 1556 for King Bayinnaung. It is ornate in gold as a symbol of splendor and wealth of the Burmese empire.
