Husein Sastranegara International Airport – BDO Bandung
Bandung International Airport or known locally as Husein Sastranegara International Airport is an international airport serving West Java, Indonesia. The airport is strategically situated within the city and is just 2.4 kilometers from Bandung Central Train Station. It takes a unique approach when aircraft lands in the area as mountains surround the airport. However, despite its location in Bandung, Indonesia, the airport can accommodate various aircraft sizes, such as Airbus A320 and Boeing 737. Currently, the airport has two terminal concourses that serve domestic and international passengers.
Best Time to Visit
Established by the Dutch settlers during the country's colonial period, Husein Sastranegara International Airport was then called Andir Airfield. The name was later changed to Husein Sastranegara Airport, in honor of Husein Sastranegara, an aviation hero from West Java. In 2010, the airport gained a reputation by achieving 30 flight operations schedules in a day. With the increasing number of passengers traveling to and from Bandung and its surrounding cities like Cibadak or Pasirjambu, the airport underwent redevelopment increasing its capacity to 3.5 million passengers each year.
What to Do & Area Attractions
While redevelopment plans for the airport are still ongoing, the construction of an onsite hotel is yet to be decided. Nevertheless, there are a handful of hotels near the airport that travelers can check-in like Aston Pasteur Hotel, Grand Aquila Hotel Bandung, or at Holiday Inn Bandung Pasteur. These hotels are less than 15-minutes away from the airport making it convenient for travels that are only staying overnight.
