Bellary Airport - BEP
Bellary Airport is a public airport in Bellary, India operated by the Airports Authority of India. It serves the regions of Bellary and the towns and municipalities in Karnataka. Tata Airlines and Vayudoot used to served flights in the airport. As of May 2018 no commercial air service is being accommodated in the airport. The Jindal Vijaynagar Airport located in Toranagallu, also in Karnataka is the current airport that serves domestic flights in the region. A new airport is said to be built in the future and will accommodate flights from Bellary to different areas in India.
Best Time to Visit
BEP Airport was built in 1932 and originally provided airmail service to the region under Air India, which was Tata Airlines before. The airport is also a preferred British stopover due to its strategic location and for having a large presence of military troops in the city. It has a single 1,106-meter long runway connected to a taxiway on the southern end of the airport. Hampi is a nearby ancient village you can check out for tourist attractions close to the airport. Hindu Temple ruins, mountains and 7th century temples can be explored in the village.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Bellary Airport hotels are not available inside the airport premises but there are several to check out near the Kumaraswamy Temple. Among these are the Hotel ALLUM and the Hotel Pola Paradise Bellary. The Bellary Fort is also located close to these areas.
