Bergerac – A Land of Lush Vineyards
Bergerac, France is a beautiful town in the country’s Dordogne department. It is located between the Loire Valley and the Pyrenees. Dordogne has enticed many travelers for centuries. Today is no different and in Dordogne is the charming port town of Bergerac. It is situated along the river Dordogne and though it is a port town, it is best known for its wine. The town boasts of lush vineyards, rolling hills, sunflower fields, and remnants of the Medieval Ages such as grand castles and hamlets that still stand to this day. There is definitely a lot of things to do in Bergerac. To get here, visitors will land at the Bergerac-Roumaniere Airport (EGC), the airport serving the town.
Best Time to Visit
Months from May to October, Bergerac experiences its most pleasant weather, warm with limited rainfall. The hottest month is August and the coldest is January. For travelers who don’t like the crowd, it is best to avoid July as it is the busiest month in the town in terms of tourists. Summer is also a great time to visit, though hot, because of the Summer Festival held in the town.
What to Do & Area Attractions
An important landmark in the town is the Cyrano de Bergerac Statue. There are two of them, the older one can be found in the Place de la Myrpe and the newer one in the Place Pelissiere. For wine lovers, a great place to visit while in town is the Bergerac Maison des Vins, which is open all year round. Here, tourists can sample famous vintage wines and more. A fun place to be for both kids and adults is the Port Miniature where swimming, riding boats, and jumping on bouncy castles is a thing.
