Betty's Bay: Scenic Seaside Village
The picturesque little seaside village of Betty’s Bay, South Africa is a destination that has breathtaking views and a relaxed, easy vibe. It is located along a narrow strip of land between the Kogelberg Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, spanning over 13 km along the coast. It is worth exploring for its penguin colony at Stony Point and the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens, both very popular tourist attractions.
Best Time to Visit
Tourism plays a vital role in Betty’s Bay. Although it is a wonderful year-round destination, there are still ideal months to visit such as from March to June as well as from July to November. Expect these months to bring in the most number of tourists though so expect the top sightseeing spots and Betty’s Bay hotels to be priced higher than usual. The breeding season which takes place in February is also a peak month for tourists who visit the colony.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Tourists flock to Betty’s Bay for two things: the Betty's Bay Penguin Colony located in Stony Point Nature Reserve and the natural habitation to a unique colony of African Jackass penguins and the Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens, a renowned botanical and zoological garden. While in town, stay at Bucaco Sud, a homely B&B with scenic ocean views or at the Van den Bergs Guesthouse B&B, a 3.5 star B&B in Greater Hermanus. Another excellent choice is the Kapensis Guesthouse set on a nature reserve with stunning mountain and sea views.
