Blue Lagoon
Blue Lagoon is a popular freshwater swimming destination hidden in a serene spot in Moreton Island. Unlike other lakes, Blue Lagoon’s freshwater is not supplied by any network of rivers or streams, but from a water table under it. Even more impressive, there is a considerable amount of tea tree oil in the lagoon, which produces the water’s brown color instead of blue. With the place being tranquil and secluded, Blue Lagoon is the home of a range of bird species, including the Oystercatcher birds, which are often spotted along the shores as they catch shellfish for food. The 42-hectare lagoon’s shallow waters make it a safe swimming spot even for kids in Moreton Island.
