About Morgans Hotel Group Cat Cay
Morgans Hotel Group (MHG) was acquired by SBE Entertainment Group in 2016. It was a global hospitality company founded by Ian Schrager, and is credited with the invention of the Boutique Hotel concept in 1984. It was when he opened Morgans Hotel in New York that the concept was given the attention. MHG owned or partially owned and operated 13 hotels in London, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, San Francisco, and Miami. That amounts to 3000 rooms. The hotel brands under this group are Delano, Mondrian, Hudson, Shore Club, Royalton, and A Morgans Original, which all had popularity in their own rights. All of these hotels were styled and designed by world-famous artists Andree Putnam, Philippe Starck, Marcel Wanders, and Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz.
In May 2016, when SBE acquired Morgans Hotel Group, the combined corporations started managing over 20 hotels including the ones under SBE’s brands. In November 2016, the acquisition was marked official. Morgans Hotel Group had been a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ exchange when Schrager left and until the finalization of the SBE take-over. Sam Nazarian, SBE’s founder and CEO retained majority of ownership and continues to hold his role until the present, leading all daily operations.
