Chatham Islands / Tuuta Airport located in Waitangi, New Zealand is a domestic airport that serves the town and other nearby regions in the Chatham Islands. Named after Inia William Tuuta, it was completed in 1982 as a replacement for the grass strip that was being used as the temporary airport in the region. CHT-Chatham Islands - Tuuta serves flights from the airport to major cities in New Zealand such as Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch via a Convair 580 aircraft. Only two aircrafts are parked in the airport overnight.
Best Time to Visit
The New Zealand government, the owner of the airport back in 2012, announced plans for improvement. Improvements in the airport will include the extension and resurfacing of the current runway as well as the addition of a new passenger and administration terminal in the airport. A larger apron and aircraft hangar are also included in the plan. Air Chathams serves flights from this airport to four destinations in New Zealand. For leisure, you can head to the Pitt Island where beaches and nature attractions are available for you to enjoy and wander.
