Colima: A Tourist Getaway in the Shadow of a Volcano
Colima is the capital city of the state of Colima, one of Mexico’s 32 Federal Entities. Its name is a reference to one of Mexico’s active volcanoes, the Colima Volcano. The city flourishes in terms of commerce and economic and agricultural activity. Colima, Mexico’s main airport is the Licenciado Miguel de la Madrid National Airport, otherwise simply known as the Colima Airport.

For the most ideal and pleasant weather, the best time to visit Colima is from December to February. In terms of avoiding busy tourist seasons, the ideal time to plan a trip would be either in May or September, where tourists volumes are relatively low. The best cultural experience of Colima, Mexico can be had in July, where the entire state hosts the Festivals de Santiago.

One of Colima’s most popular attractions is the El Salto Waterfall, located in Peña Colorada, under two hours away from the city. The sights leading to and at the falls itself are incredibly scenic, and there are a lot of eateries and lodgings available for tourists. The La Piedra Lisa Park hosts the famous Piedra Lisa rock that came from the Colima volcanic eruption and is said to bring good luck to those who touch it.
