Although Deadwood gained its popularity for its murders and personalities like Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane, it is now considered as a destination for rich historical tours and outdoor adventure. A perfect setting for the old Wild Wild west experience, gold was discovered during the 1874 that was considered as one of the biggest gold rushes in the United States. IN 1876, during further gold explorations, a creek filled with gold was found in the northern Black Hills and became Deadwood, SD, the city that it is today. Proud of its history, re-enactments the trials and death of Wild Bill Hickok are still performed downtown.
