Djibouti: A Vibrant Mix of the Old and Modern
The city of Djibouti is the capital and the largest city of Djibouti. It has a robust economy that is the second largest in the Horn of Africa. Founded in 1888, the city is also called the Pearl of the Gulf of Tadjoura and is located adjacent to the world's busiest shipping lanes and serves as a refueling and transshipment center. Access to the city is through the Djibouti–Ambouli International Airport (JIB), situated approximately 3.7 miles from the city centre.
Best Time to Visit
Even though Djibouti enjoys good weather all year round, the most favorable months to visit the city would still be between November and January when the temperature is cooler as these are winter months. Djibouti welcomes most of its tourists also within these months. Since these are peak months, prices for Djibouti, DJ hotels and flights are costlier than usual although advance bookings can save you heaps. You can plan your visit to coincide with the Fest’Horn, a regional music celebration in mid-December to better experience the local culture.
