Hailed from the Anglo-Saxon word Effingham, IL meaning “Effa’s House” the city’s name was a tribute to a surveyor that surveyed the area during its early settlements. Some claims that the county was named after Lord Effingham, 2nd Duke of Norfolk, but no written proof was able to prove such claims. Temperatures are drastically changing in Effingham, Illinois. To enjoy a friendly time under the sun, it would be ideal to visit in July, being the busiest month for tourists in the area, followed by the months of June and August. To avoid the crowd, it would be best to visit during May or September, still with pleasing climate but thinner crowds.
