Ellensburg, WA was named after Mary Ellen, wife of John A. Shoudy, one of the earlier settlers in the region who bought the first store in the region “Robbers’s Roost” and 160 acres of land. The lands were converted according to the business plan of their family while improving the road connection with the Yakima country. At present, the town is home to the Central Washington University and its historic buildings that were built in the 19th century and still standing beautifully up to this day.
