Emden: A Port City Like No Other
Emden, Germany is a small city with an important harbor. Known as the "capital" of the East Frisia region, it is mostly a rural area with a significant shipping industry that has been its main source of economy. Emden has been in existence since the 8th century. As early as the late 1980s, Emden has been a forerunner in becoming a sustainable city.
Best Time to Visit
A visit to Emden between late May and mid-September is ideal since the city experiences good weather during this period. January, October and August are the city’s busiest months when more visitors come to the area thus, Emden DE hotel rates are more expensive during these months. At the end of May, the city holds "Matjeslauf," a popular running event and this attracts a horde of visitors to the city as well. Emden gets the least crowd in March and if you’re planning a visit during this month, remember that it is the least expensive time for hotel prices and other traveling expenses.
What to Do & Area Attractions
The Kunsthalle-Emden is an interesting museum to visit while in the city for its vast 20th-century & contemporary art collections. Another must-see is The Leaning Tower of Suurhusen, a late medieval tilted steeple in nearby Suurhusen. You can find hotels along the Emden DE hotels such as Hotel am Delft, a polished hotel and the waterfront-situated Hotel-Restaurant Goldener Adler. The Ems-Hotel, on the other hand, is a low-key guesthouse very near trains and ferries.
