The Fortaleza International Airport is one of the 760 airports in Brazil. It is located 7 miles south of downtown Fortaleza, Brazil and serves the town and the nearby places. The Fortaleza International Airport, whose airport code is FOR, was named after a Ceará-born aviator Euclides Pinto Martins. It is owned and operated by Fraport, a German transport company which is also operating other airports around the world. Some of the facilities of the airport are shared by Brazilian Air Force’s Fortaleza Air Force Base. In 2017, the airport handled 5,935,288 passengers and 54,177 aircraft movements.

FOR-Fortaleza International Airport was started from a runway used by Ceara Flying School from 1930 to 2000. It was first named Cocorote Airport. During World War II it became an important support to Southern Atlantic Operations. In 1952 it was renamed to its present name. From 1974 to 2017 the airport was operated by a Brazilian government corporation Infraero. In 1997 it was operated as an international airport. The new facilities were finally operational in 1997. As of 2018, the airport was started with the construction of two-storey terminal extension which target completion is April 14, 2020. Cumbuco, Eusebio, and Fortaleza are the nearest cities you can explore upon arrival.
