Grand Bahama International Airport
Freeport, Bahamas is home to the Grand Bahama International Airport, carrying the airport code FPO. It was built pursuant to a joint venture between the Grand Bahama Port Authority and the Hutchison Port holdings. The privately owned facility and sits adjunct to the Freeport Harbour Company. Covering more than 300 hectares, the facility accommodates several airlines including the American Eagle, Sunwing Airlines, and the Delta Connection. Seasonal flights include the BahamasAir and Blue Panorama Airlines.

FPO-Grand Bahama International Airport has a runway capable of accommodating even the biggest aircraft in the industry. Facilities are also fairly advance with features like an Instrument Landing System, Precision Approach Path Indicator, Category 7 Fire Fighting Facilities, Distance Remaining Markers, and more. There are only 2 Bahamian airports with preclearance facilities for the United States and Grand Bahama Airport is one of them. Not surprising since the airport sits by the Eastern Seaboard, putting it close to most of the major cities in the United States. From the airport, you can quickly visit some of Bahamas’ oldest communities like Deadman’s Reef, Lucaya, or Smith’s Point.
