About Hotel Du Vin & Bistro Fritham
Hotel du Vin is a UK-based hotel chain managing 19 boutique hotels. It was founded by famous hoteliers Gerard Basset and Robin Hutson. Its doors first opened in 1994 in Winchester. The two met in the Chewton Glen Hotel where Hutson served as the managing director while Basset was appointed as the head sommelier. The hotel’s name refers to Basset as a wine expert. Today, most of its hotels are located in cities, cathedral towns, and university locations. They all exude extraordinary character formed by the sensitive conversion of the building, history, and architecture.
Hotel du Vin is currently owned by Frasers Hospitality of Singapore which bought the hotel chain, along with the Malmaison hotel chain from KSL Capital for approximately $458 million (£363 million) in 2015. KSL Capital acquired the property from its original founders in early 2013.
Hotel du Vin opened other locations including St Andrews, Tunbridge Wells, Brighton, Bristol, Harrogate, Birmingham, Henley-on-Thames, Glasgow, Cheltenham, York, Exeter, Cambridge, Newcastle, Wimbledon, Poole, and Edinburgh. Today, most of its hotels are located in cities, cathedral towns, and university locations. Hotel du Vin has bistros which serve French classics with a touch of British as well as low-lit bars providing several of the best wines in the world.
