Greymouth Airport - GMN New Zealand
Greymouth Airport is a small airport in the suburb of Blaketown, New Zealand. It stands more than a kilometer away from the central business district of Greymouth and is situated in the biggest city along the west coast of South Island. This public airport is operated by the Grey District Council. While the airport briefly offered commercial flights, there are no regular operations now.
Best Time to Visit
GMN is mainly serves as a refueling facility and as a hangar for light aircrafts. Air West Coast still offers charter flights. Being an uncontrolled aerodrome, Greymouth Airport has no operating control tower. Those flying in and out use standard communications and operations procedures for non-towered airports. From 1986 to 1988, de Havilland Twin Otter services were offered by Coast Air to Nelson and Christchurch every day. From November 2002 to August 2008, Air West Coast offered commercial flights direct to Christchurch, Wellington, and Westport. At Greymouth, you can enjoy fishing and an array of water activities at Lake Brunner or explore the magnificent rock formations at Paparoa National Park. Go hiking at Punakaiki Cavern or join a knifemaking workshop while visiting nearby Barrytown.
