Hatsukaichi: Home of the Floating Gate
A city in Hiroshima, Japan, Hatsukaichi is a destination made delightful by its natural beauty, culture and history. Get to Hatsukaitchi through Hiroshima Airport (HIJ) and see what wonders it holds for you.
Best Time to Visit
New Year’s, Golden Week, Obon Week and school summer vacation are seasons to avoid - accommodations are full and prices are higher. Alternatively, you can book your Hatsukaichi hotel in advance. Winter is low season in Hatsukaichi, and is a time for lower hotel rates and better accommodation deals. Festivals to note include the Miyajima Oyster Festival in February and Kiyomori Festival in March.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site Atomic Bomb Dome and be reminded about the devastating effects of war and the importance of peace. Enjoy the panoramic view from the top floor of the Fukuyama Castle, surrounded by a park with cherry blossom trees that bloom in spring. Itsukushima Shrine, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to the famous “floating” torii gate. You can either pass through the torii gate on a boat cruise during high tide, or you can walk up to the gate and see it up close at low tide. Have a great Hatsukachi vacation by staying at the highly recommended Hotel Miyajima Villa, which is in very close proximity with many attractions. You can also stay at Sakuraya, which offers Japanese-style rooms with amazing sea views and very friendly and accommodating staff. There’s also Aki Grand Hotel & Spa, offering modern Japanese-style accommodation with free breakfast.
