The Hawaii Gateway Energy Center is one of the most famous landmarks and tourist spots on the island of Hawaii. The facility in Kalua-Kona, operated by the State of Hawaii, was constructed for researches and development studies of the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii. It is the first-ever facility built on land covering 6.5 acres in the history of the island. The Hawaii Gateway Energy Center, as it is known as a tourist spot, has a visitor information center on the premises. Restrooms, administrative offices, and support areas are housed in the visitors’ complex. It also contains a spacious multi-purpose facility intended for exhibitions, research, and education.
