Hawera: Of Museums and Parks
Hawera, New Zealand is the second largest town on the North Island. It is several minutes away from the South Taranaki Bight Bay, which contributes to its growing tourism. The town’s history goes way back in the late 1860s when it was used as a military base. Hawera meant “burnt place” in the Maori language. It refers to the fight of two local tribes that resulted in a huge fire in the area during the early times.
Best Time to Visit
It rarely gets warm at Hawera. The temperature remains cooler than the majority of other summer destinations. It is best to visit the town between December and early March when the temperature is comfortable and little to moderate chances of rain. Do note that as these months fall under the summer season, there are many tourists in town, and Hawera NZ hotels are expensive.
