Hennigan's Heritage Centre, Swinford, Ireland
The Hennigan's Heritage Center in Swinford, Ireland is one of the charming local attractions in the region. It sits mainly in the countryside area of the region that overlooks the beautiful Creagaballa Lake. Hosted by Rom and Catherine, the area is a perfect place to learn more about the history of the region and its interesting culture. The center was mainly built to be able to promote and preserve life in the Mayo area. This includes the way of farming work and the celebration of life in the region. It was built in 1879 by the Hennigan family, who used the property as a home up until the 1970s. It was opened in 1990 by Tom Hennigan to the public, to tell the story on how the Hennigan family survived here.
After your time in the center, take time to visit the Meelick Round Tower. This historical landmark in Ireland is considered to be one of the stunning structures still standing proudly in the region. The tower is believed to be built between 923 and 1013 A.D. It is one of the five round towers, also located in the country that stands 66 feet high from the ground. it was restored in 1880 and offers a stunning view of the surrounding countryside area.
