Lander: Enjoying Wyoming’s Outdoor Adventure Haven
Serviced by the Hunt Field Airport and Riverton Regional Airport, the region is one of the many adventure destinations in Wyoming and offers entertainment, recreational opportunities, scenic attractions and fun time for all ages. Lander, WY is the county seat of Fremont County. The region has several names, Fort Brown, Pushroot and Fort Augur before it was named Lander. The name is a tribute to General Frederick W. Lander. He was a transcontinental explorer who surveyed the Lander Cutoff in Oregon’s Trail. Lander is located just a few miles from Sinks Canyon State Park and the Historic South Pass City.
Best Time to Visit
Visit Lander during the month of July to experience the Pioneer Days Rodeo Parade or during March to participate in the Wyoming State Winter Fair. Time in the snow can be enjoyed at its best during the mid weeks of January.
