Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport – LOP Lombok
The only operational airport that serves Lombok Indonesia, Zainuddin Abdul Madjid Internationa Airport, was named in honor of Islamic scholar Zainuddin Abdul Madjid. Strategically located at the center of the island, the airport was previously called Lombok International Airport. Established in 2011, the airport replaced Selaparang Airport due to its updated facilities and services. The newly constructed airport can accommodate bigger aircraft, such as Airbus A330 and Boeing 747.
Best Time to Visit
Consisting of one terminal that serves both domestic and international flight operations, Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport was developed due to the increasing tourism activity of Lombok Island. Before the official name of the airport was changed, there were several names that were proposed, which resulted in a public opinion poll. The name Lombok International Airport garnered 40.4% of the votes making its official name before it was changed to Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport. In fact, the IATA code of the airport LOP was formally used in 2011. Prior to that, the airport was using a different IATA code. Today, the airport serves as the main gateway to the island of Lombok and its nearby popular destination like Gili Air.
