Malekoula Airprot- LPM Lamap, Vanuatu
One of the two airports in the island of Malekoula (Malekula is a spelling variation) is the Malekoula Airport with the IATA geocode LPM. It is also commonly referred to as Lamap Airport because of its location near Lamap in the province of Malampa in Vanuatu, a Pacific island country. It serves inter-island domestic flights just like the other airfield on the island, Norsup Airport in the north. Because of its remote destination and lack of facilities, there are very few existing data about the airport.
Best Time to Visit
The tiny airport is in the middle of a field. Air Vanuatu stops at Lamap Airport on its daily flights from Port Vila and Santo to Norsup as well as when flying to Craig Cove. There are also twice-weekly flights between Lamap and Norsup, a most valuable route especially during the rainy season when rivers are flooded. Flights between the two airports cost less than a boat ride or a 40 wheel drive rental. The airport serves as an entryway to the village of Lamap (formerly known as Port Sandwich).
What to Do & Area Attractions
Guesthouses are the only type of accommodations in the island. They are called bungalows or huts with thatched roof built in the traditional style. One such is Levis Guesthouse, quite near the airport. You can also book at hotels like the Coral Quay Fish and Dive Resort or the Paradise Cove Resort, which are both quite far from the airport.
The other islands in Vanuatu have their own small airports serving inter-island routes. Some of them are the Craig Cove Airport (CCV) on nearby Ambrym Island, Lamen Bay Airport (LNB) in the neighboring island of Epi and South West Bay Airport (SWJ).
