Luxembourg Airport – LUX Findel
Previously called Luxembourg Findel Airport, Luxembourg Airport is the city’s main and only international airport, and the only one in the country with a paved runway. It is located in the village of Findel, Luxembourg Cty, Luxembourg. It is Europe’s fifth busiest airport in terms of cargo weight, and 28th busiest in the world. It was originally named Sandweiler Airport when it opened as a small grass airfield in 1930.
Best Time to Visit
The LUX-Luxembourg Airport has a 13,130-foot (4,002 meters) asphalt runway and two terminals. Originally built in 1975, Terminal A was the airport’s sole terminal for 30 years until Terminal B opened in 2004. Construction of a new Terminal A commenced in 2005 and was inaugurated in 2008. The original Terminal A was eventually torn down in March of 2012, to make way for a footbridge connecting the new one with Terminal B. Intended to service small planes with a maximum capacity of 50 people, Terminal B has gates but no check-in counters or arrival halls. It is used primarily by Luxair’s Q400 fleet and can handle up to 600,000 passengers a year. LUX is the airport of choice for visitors to Trier, Sandweiler, Pfalzel, Senningen, and Oberanven, which are all under ten minutes away.
