Best Time to Visit
Samuel Addison Sloan constructed the airport in 1927. During that time, the airport was named after Sloan, calling it Sloan Field. In the 1940s, the city of Midland promoted the airfield for the training base for the US military and was granted the following year. After World War II, the airport converted to commercial use, and by 1960, a new passenger terminal was added. It was in the 1970s when the city experienced an "oil boom," leading to economic growth and an increase in flight operations. With the rising influx of passengers traveling to and from Midland, as well as Big Spring and Garden City, the facilities and services of the airport were upgraded during the 1990s.
