Maitland: Meek, Little Town in South Australia
Not to be confused with the river town of the same name in New South Wales, Maitland, Australia is another town in South Australia. It is known to be the heart of the Yorke Peninsula because of its midland location. Maitland is a sleepy town with no more than 1100 in population. Its name was derived after the wife of an affluent local in the area, Lady Jean Maitland.
Best Time to Visit
Maitland, South Australia, like the rest of the country, is most recommended to be visited in the middle of the year when it is the warmest. These are also the months with relatively less tourist and Maitland AU hotels are more affordable. Although do watch out for the occasional rainfall. There are no major festivals happening in the city alone but there are annual concerts and events that you may participate in some months of the year.

There are no immediate hotels or accommodations nearby the town proper of Maitland. There is also the unique Ardrossan Caravan Park where you can go camping, hiking, and fishing in the area. While in town, you should definitely not miss a visit to Dinosaurs in Maitland, a small museum with replicas and inflatable life-size figures of dinosaurs. On the other hand, the CYP National Trust Museum will tell you all about the town’s glorious past. Numerous Maitland Markets are also set up all over the town every month from Thursday to Friday where you can buy quaint souvenirs to bring home for remembrance or for your loved ones.
