Maseru: Exploring Lesotho’s Mile High Capital City
Serving as the capital of the country, Maseru is a city on the hills, sitting at an altitude of around 5,200 feet. It is dubbed as “The Mile High Capital City” because of its strategic location. Maseru was initially a police camp but gained the capital status following the rule of Britain in the country. International travelers can reach Maseru, Lesotho via its own airfield, Moshoeshoe I International Airport (MSU), which connects the city to Johannesburg.
Best Time to Visit
Every year in March, Maseru hosts the Moshoeshoe’s Day, a one-day event celebrating the late King Moshoeshoe I. This is a great event to attend, as you will get to learn about the vibrant history of the city and the excellence of the former leader. Tourism during this season is the slowest, so expect cheaper and readily available Maseru, Lesotho hotels. Meanwhile, it can get pretty crowded in the city come January.
What to Do & Area Attractions
