Merida: A Spot off the Beaten Track
Merida, sitting on top of what was originally known as the Lusitanian capital Augusta Emerita, is the city capital of the Extramadura region in western central Spain. Merida was given the UNESCO World Heritage status in 1993 for its numerous Roman ruins that have remained intact until the present time, making it a tourist destination unlike any other. You can get to Merida, Spain through Badajoz Airport (BJZ).
Best Time to Visit
Unlike other Spain destinations, Merida does not teem with holiday-goers – at least not yet – so any time of the year would be ideal, as Merida hotels would not be hard to come by.
