Methoni is a village part of the Pydna-Kolindros municipality, formerly part of the Pieria regional unit. Since the ancient settlements in Methoni, the area has experienced and has gone through a series of conflicts over the past centuries. It has been well known as an important harbor during the ancient Greek times. The urban settlement was known to be separated from the harbor; however, there has been no historical reference about the location of such harbor. The city of Methoni is comprised with historical and cultural infrastructures dating back to the early centuries and is still presently admired.

Methoni, with its wide selection of landmarks and sites, has great historical highlights. One of which is the Cathedral of Ayios Minas, which is the largest church in Crete, striking visitors with its intricately detailed interior and dome frescoes. Another religious landmark is the Saint Andrew Cathedral, a Greek Orthodox basilica in Patras. The church is built on the exact location where Andrew, one of Jesus's Apostles and the city’s patron saint, was crucified.
