Moama – Paddle Steamer Capital of Australia
It is hard to think of Moama alone or even call it simply as Moama. It is better known as Echuca-Moama by locals and tourism authorities as it is Echuca’s twin town. Originally, Moama was named Maiden’s Punt when it was settled in in 1845. It was later renamed Moama by the year 1851. Moama, New South Wales is a river town located on the northern side of the Murray River. The river serves as the boarder of New South Wales and Victoria, with only a bridge connecting the two. Echuca-Moama as twin towns are known for being the home of the world’s largest fleet of riverboats. The nearest airport with commercial services to Moama is the Melbourne Airport only 2 hours and 20 minutes away from the town center.
Best Time to Visit
It’s best to visit Moama and enjoy the town’s attractions when the weather is good. This is generally around mid-October to late April. January is usually the busiest month in Moama and so hotel prices are high, and it may be harder to book a vacant room. However, booking a Moama, AU hotel is easier and cheaper around May when the number of tourists in the town is down as well.
What to Do & Area Attractions
There are a lot to do and experience when in Moama, Australia. For one, a visit to the Chanter Estate Winery and Military Museum is a must. It’s a great place to sample good wine and learn about the town as well. When bringing the whole family, it’s best to take them to Adventure Play Park to have fun.
