Carrasco International Airport – MVD Montevideo, Uruguay
The capital city of Montevideo, Uruguay is home to the Carrasco International Airport (MVD), the major international airport in the country hosting both domestic and international flights to South, Central and North America and Europe. It is located in the Carrasco section of the city center which is about 20 km away. The airport is also a military air base of the Uruguayan Air Force bearing the name General Cesareo Berisso Air Base. In 2018, more than 2 million passengers used the airport.

In 2018, the MVD-Carrasco International Airport became the first in Latin America to have facial recognition at boarding gates. It boasts of two operating runways which were expanded allowing it to offer non-stop flights to the US and Europe. The airport consists of a single but expansive passenger terminal with 8 boarding gates, 44 check-in posts and 24 immigration counters. The terminal is divided into two levels: the ground floor for arrival and the first level for departures. Its 13 airlines fly to 12 destinations with Sao Paulo in Brazil as the most popular destination. Localities served by the airport are the city of Montevideo as well as the areas of Buceo, Tres Cruces and Prado, among others.
