Newport State Airport – NPT Newport
The Newport State Airport is one of the six active airports in Rhode Island. It is located 2 miles northeast of Newport, Newport County, U.S. State of Rhode Island and serves Newport and the nearby areas. The Newport State Airport code which is NPTis taken from the city itself. Although it is the code assigned by AITA, FAA gave UUU for its code. It is classified as a public type airport. Its operation started when the airport site was acquired in 1960. In 1967, the runways and taxiways construction was completed. Part of the airport had been the site of the filming of an American movie, Moonrise Kingdom.
