Nanyuki Airfield – NYK Kenya
Nanyuki Airfield is a medium-sized civilian airport owned by the government of Kenya and privately leased to accommodate both commercial and private air operators. Located in Nanyuki, Kenya, NYK Airfield handles commercial and jet and charter flights to five domestic destinations thru four airlines. Nanyuki Airfield traces its roots to a grass airstrip built in 1960salong the Nanyuki – Rumuruti Road. This airfield was bought by the government for official and military use; and was named Laikipia Air Base. To answer the need for a civilian airport, the Nanyuki Civil Airfield was built along Nanyuki-Moru Road. The air charter company Tropic Air Kenya set its headquarters in NYK in the 1990s, and other carriers followed suit in offering scheduled flights.
