Oskarshamn: Home of the Longa Soffan
Oskarshamn, Sweden is a coastal city in Kalmar County, Smaland. It was first known as “Döderhultsvik”. Eventually, its name became “Oscarshamn” in honor of King Oscar I. The spelling changed eventually. It became a city in 1856.
Best Time to Visit
With an oceanic climate, the perfect time to visit Oskarshamn is during the months of May through August. Peak tourist season is usually during the months of May, June, and August. Tourists are least likely to visit in December. One of the most anticipated events in the city is Latitud 57, which is held every July. It is a family festival that has been promoting music since 2009. An offshore race motorboat competition is also held during the days of the festival.

One of the most popular attractions in the area is Longa Soffan. It is a wooden park bench built in 1867. It is one of the world’s longest wooden benches that still exist from the 19th century. It offers an incredible view of the port of Oskarshamn. Another must-see attraction in the city is Oskarshamns Stadspark. It is a public park that features bronze statues, fountains, ponds, and a public tennis court. It also has trails suitable for bicycling, jogging, and walking.
