Oudtshoorn: More than the Ostriches, There’s the Outdoor Too
Home to the largest number of ostriches, thus earning its nickname as “Ostrich Capital of the World,” is a town in Western Cape called Oudtshoorn, South Africa. It lies between two mountain ranges: Swartberg and Outeniqua and is considered the biggest town in the region of Little Karoo. You can book flights through the Oudtshoorn Airport, which is the only a few minutes away from the town center.
Best Time to Visit
It is best to enjoy a trip to Oudtshoorn, South Africa between the months of April to May or August to September when the temperature is favorable. Sporting a semi-arid climate, it is not advisable to visit the town during the summer as it may get extremely hot and the same goes for winter or wet season. Oudtshoorn hotels and accommodations are less pricey during spring and autumn seasons. Not only that, as the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival is held every April too so it is something you will not want to miss.

Natural parks and mountain trails are interesting attractions in town too. You can stroll around the Minwater Eco Park, take pictures at the Cango Caves, and tour the De Rust Historical Village.
