Best Time to Visit
The site of Perth Airport was previously a military base for the Royal Australian Air Force, known as RAAF Station Guildford. When opened to civilians, this became the Guildford Aerodome. It was essentially only an airfield with single control tower, and boarding aircraft then was a far cry from the experience it is today. It was in 1948 that MacRobertson Miller Aviation and Trans Australia Airlines relocated to Guildford, leaving the airport the ideal place for cargo operations. The Guildford Aerodome officially became the Perth Airport in 1952, followed by construction for a new international terminal. During further construction in 1987, an accident killed a helicopter pilot due to a loose cable while lifting construction material. Cities near Perth Airport include Bayswater, Carmel, City Beach, and High Wycombe.
