Progreso is a laidback port city located in the Mexican state of Yucatán. The nearest tourist attraction is the Progreso Beach located about 40 kilometers north of Merida. Restaurants and cafes are dotted nearby. A short drive away is Dzibilchaltun Ruins, which used to be a large settlement in the 1500s. You can also spend the afternoon touring the Museum of the City of Merida, which houses key archeological pieces that will help you appreciate the city's transition from its pre-Hispanic era to modern times.
