Rockford: A Laid-Back Chamber
Formerly known as Shane’s Crossing or Shaneville after its founder, Anthony Shane, Rockford, Ohio is now a small village situated on the St. Mary’s River. The village only has a population of no more than 1500 people. Native American tribes settled in Rockford long before the European colonization and the Indian War. Van Wert County Airport (VNW) is a regional airport 20 minutes away from the village.
Best Time to Visit
Rockford, OH’s weather is suitable as a summer destination. Hence, if you want to avoid the crowd, visit the village during April or October wherein the temperature is favorable. Limited rainfall and snow is expected some other months. The Rockford Community Day Arts and Music Festival is held June every year.
What to Do & Area Attractions
The development of Rockford as a community is still in progress. Thus, there are not many attractions and to-dos in the village. The only attraction within the village is Rockford Recreational Association, a recreational park perfect for family picnics and casual get-togethers. About 20 minutes away from the village is the serene Grand Lake St. Mary’s State Park. For lovers of antiquity, the Auglaize Antique Mall is just 30 minutes away and is surely a paradise of collector’s items. Unfortunately, there are no immediate Rockford, OH hotels and accommodations available in the village. Best Western Celina and America’s Best Value Inn Celina are located in the next city, Celina, OH, and are about less than 10 miles away from the village. On the other hand, the Comfort Inn Van Wert is located near the VNW airport.
