Sabang, Indonesia: Satiate Your Tropical Dreams in Weh Island’s Biggest Town
Sabang, Indonesia, is the largest city in Weh Island (also called Pulau Weh). It boasts caves, culinary delights, arresting cerulean beaches, and diving spots that will surely fulfill your tropical state of mind. While the western part of the island has been swept away by the tsunami in 2004, the eastern part remains unscathed and is always up to give tourists their most-deserved vacation.
Best Time to Visit
To fully enjoy the sea and sunshine, it’s best to visit the city from April to November. However, it’s when March through May that Sabang hotels are more affordably priced, given that tourism is slowest around this time. Plus, rain is rare, and the average temperatures fall between 32.1°C and 30.6°C.
What to Do & Area Attractions
The majority of Sabang’s populace are Muslims, which is why it’s important to remember that being in modest clothing is preferred by the locals. You can still dress casually, though, but respecting the city dwellers and their norms is a must. Nevertheless, these don’t mean you won’t have a memorable time. Go to Agung Babussalam Mosque and join devotees to get a closer look at their Islamic life, all the while admiring the mosque’s illustrious architecture. Samur Tiga Beach is an excellent choice as well. Tourists also visit Ujong Kareung Beach to go fishing and to enjoy its natural splendor and panoramic view.
Spend a night or two (or even a week) at Hermes Palace Hotel, which is near museums. The Kyriad Muraya Hotel Aceh, on the other hand, is just 20 minutes away from the airport and ensconced in a plethora of restaurants, banks, and business establishments. If you want a place near mosques, Grand Nanggroe Hotel is the best choice.
