Sagres: A Roughing It at the World’s End
Unlike many tourist destinations, Sagres Portugal does not have impressive cultural or historical attractions. But what it lacks for pomp and grandiose, it makes up with its wild environments. This unassuming municipality, which is located at Algarve’s extreme western tip, is a popular spot for surfers and those who like pitting themselves against the raw power of nature evident in the barren landscapes and immense cliffs. Less adventurous can opt to stay in the attractive town square and get their fill of the bars and restaurants, which mostly serve fresh catch from the Mediterranean Sea.
Best Time to Visit
Summer season peaks in Sagres from June to September. Not a lot of people visit Sagres, Portugal during this period, so you can expect to find good deals on lodging and other accommodations. Most tourists come during the spring (March to May) when the days are bright and warm but not scorching hot. If you are an experienced surfer, you would enjoy being in Sagres in the winter, when there are less tourists. You can also come for the Birdwatching Festival in October.
