Salas, Spain or San Martin de Salas is a town in Asturias. It is known for its agriculture and coal mining industries. As a mountainous area, it has become popular among tourists.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Salas is during the months of April through November, for the perfect weather. The busiest months are usually May through July. Tourists are least likely to visit in November. One of the most famous events in the area is la Ascension, which is held every spring. It features various activities like livestock competitions and traditional bull fighting. Basically, it is a celebration of the age-old way of life and of local culture. Another event to look forward to is las fiestas de San Mateo, which is held every late September. It is a religious festival observed not just throughout Spain, but also in many Christian countries. It features parades, and thanksgiving offerings.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Tourists should visit the Salas Castle, which is connected to Valdes Salas through a bridge. It is a big, square tower with 4 floors. It currently houses a museum on Pre-Romanesque art. The museum offers an insight into the richness of Pre-Romanesque art in 10th-century Spain. Another interesting site to visit is Doriga Palace, the original nucleus of which is a medieval square tower established in the 14th century.
