London Southend Airport – SEN Airport
London Southend Airport is located in Rochford District, Essex, England. It is an international airport that’s been consecutively ranked as Best Airport in Britain from 2013-2015 and Best London Airport from 2013-2019. The airport mainly handles passenger flights but also caters to charter, cargo, business flights, private aircraft, and pilot training.
Best Time to Visit
The airport was first established back in World War I. At the time, it was the largest flying ground in Essex. From the 1960s to the 1970s SEN Airport was ranked as the third busiest airport in London. The airport went through several losses early on in its history but in 2008, SEN saw the addition of a new terminal, control tower, extended runway, and connection to central London through a regular rail service. In 2012, Holiday Inn was opened adjacent to the entrance and also owned by the Stobart Group, the same group that purchased the airport in 2008. Several airlines provide regular and charter flights from SEN including easyJet, Flybe, FlyOne, Loganair, Ryanair, and Wizz Air. Not only does London Southend Airport serve Rochford District, it also benefits residents from nearby cities such Wembley, Southwater, and Yiewsley.
What to Do & Area Attractions
London Southend Airport has been ranked as among the best airports in London and Europe so it’s only reasonable that the airport also has an on-site hotel. The Premier Inn Southend Airport Hotel is also located close by and provides laid-back accommodations plus a beer garden. Skylark Hotel is a family-run hotel that offers simple accommodations and is 2.1 miles from away from SEN Airport. Other airports can be reached in 2 hours or less from SEN.
