Sonderborg Airport – SGD Sonderborg, Denmark
Sonderborg Airport was officially opened in 1968 but interestingly, the first flight on the facility was done earlier in 1950. Currently, the airport goes by the code SGD and serves the greater area of Sonderborg, Denmark and neighboring cities. Scheduled flights to and from the area is done via Alsie Express with a routine destination to Copenhagen and seasonal flights to Naples, Pisa, and others.

The airport actually filed for bankruptcy in 2012. During that year, the airline operating flights to Copenhagen was handled by Cimber Sterling before being taken over by the Danish Air Transport. Around 2013, the Alsie Express started offering their scheduled flights – just in time for the Danish Air Transport’s stoppage of their flight operations. Today, the airport is quite popular as one of the jump off point to towns like Christiansfeld and Hosby. Christianfield in particular is popular among tourists because of its declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as of the year 2015. The city is rich in culture since it was founded in 1773 by the Moravian Church. In fact, the place was named about King Christina VII.
