Spoltore: From Castles to Churches
In the province of Pescara is the captivating castle town of Spoltore, Italy. It is located in the Abruzzo region, just a short drive from Rome. The hilltop town has a view of the lovely Pescara valley and the rivers of Pescara and Saline so you know that it offers picturesque landscapes. Aside from being an important fortified town, it also had a huge significance on being a harbor town. Its name is also sometime spelled as Spuldore.
Best Time to Visit
Spoltore feels hot for half the year while cold on the other half. Despite being cold on the other half of the year, rain and snow are rare occurrences. Enjoy a pleasant weather when you visit the town between June and September. These are the best months for some on-foot explorations. Although note that there are many tourists during these time and Spoltore hotels do not come cheap. Ballet shows and live music shows are prominent in town during August when the Spoltore Ensemble takes place.
What to Do & Area Attractions
With close proximity to many of Spoltore’s points of interest, the B&B Frontepista is undoubtedly one of the most recommended hotels in town. Another exceptional bed and breakfast accommodation would be the Maria Burlini B&B. If you prefer staying at a hotel then head on to Queen Hotel which has a restaurant on-site. The Spoltore Castle Ruins, which are found on the highest part of the town, is the most famous attraction in town. The buildings are remnants of the fortress that once stood on the area. Churches from the medieval times such as Church of Madonna della Porta and Parish Church of S. Panfilo are also well-visited.
